Early Days
1902 - Manchester United FC officially came into existence on 26 April 1902 after investment from J. H. Davies of Manchester Breweries.
1908 - Man Utd won the Football League for the first timein the 1907/08 season and add the first ever charity shield
1909 - Man Utd win FA Cup for the first time
1910 - Man Utd move into their new ground Old Trafford and claim their second league title at the end of the season in 1911
Outbreak of War
1914 - The Football League was suspended and the club played in the Lancashire Prinicipal and Subsidiary Tournament for four years.

1920-1929 - Steady Decline in the first division
Mixed Fortunes
1931 - Man Utd are relegated losing 27 of their 42 league matches and conceding 115 goals
1936 - Man Utd win promotion to the first division after winning the second division title
1937 - Relegated again and Man City win the title
1938 - Promoted again after finishing runners up to Aston Villa in second division

The Busby Years
1945 - Busby joins Man Utd initially on a five-year contract
1948 - Matt Busby guides United to FA Cup victory, their first trophy since the league title in 1911.
1952, 1956, 1957 - Three league titles for the Busby Babes
1958 - Tragedy strikes on the 6th February - 22 people killed including 7 players returning from a European match against Red Star Belgrade.
1963 - Busby rebuilds United team and guides them to FA Cup victory, beating Leicester 3-1 in the final.
1963 - George Best signs for United
1965 - First league title since Munich and Dennis Law is named European Footballer of the Year
1967 - League Champions
1968 - United win their first European Cup beating Benfica 4–1 after extra time at Wembley
1968 - Matt Busby is knighted
1969 - Sir Matt Busby retires
The 1970's
1970 - Wilf McGuinness is promoted to manager replacing Sir Matt Busby
1970 - 71 - Wilf McGuinness struggles and SIr Matt Busby is back in charge temporarily
1971 - 72 - Frank O'Farrell was next in charge but dismissed in 1972
1972 - Tommy Docherty takes charge
1977 - United win the FA Cup
1977 - Docherty sacked after extramarital affair with the wife of a United physiotherapist
1977 - Dave Sexton takes charge
The 1980's
1981 - Sexton sacked and Ron Atkinson takes charge
1983 - United win FA Cup after 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in replay
1985 - United win FA Cup after beating Everton 1-0
1986 - United sack Atkinson for his failure to win the league
1986 - United appoint Alex Ferguson who as manager with Aberdeen won every honour in Scottish football and the European Cup Winners Cup
The 1990's
1990 - Fergies first trophy was in a FA cup replay against Crystal Palace, United won 1-0
1992 - Eric Cantona signs for Man Utd from Leeds Utd
1992 - Man Utd join the newly formed FA Premier League
1992 - Utd win the their first premier league title in 26 years
1993 - Roy Keane joins United for £3.75 million, a British transfer record at the time
1994 - Utd win the double, Premier League and FA Cup
1996 - Man Utd become the first ever team to win the double twice
1997 - Another premier league triumph and Eric Cantona retires
1999 - Man Utd win an historic treble - winning the premier league, beating Newcastle 2-0 in the FA cup and beating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the Champions League Final
1999 - Fergie is knighted and becomes Sir Alex Ferguson
1999 - The Treble became a quadruple, United beat Palmeiras from Brazil in the Inter-Continental Cup Final
The 00's
2000 - United pick up their sixth premier league title
2001 - United win another premier league title and Sir Alex Ferguson becomes the first ever manager to achive three in a row
2003 - Premier league title number eight
2003 - Ronaldo joins United from 'Sporting Clube de Portugal'
2004 - United win the FA cup for a record eleventh time, beating Millwall 3-0 in Cardiff
2005 - Roy Keane departs United by mutual consent
2006 - Reds beat Wigan Athletic 4-0 in the Carling Cup final
2007 - Premier league title number nine after amazing season from Ronaldo who picked up FA Player and Young Player of the year awards
2008 - Premier league title number ten and Champions league victory after a penalty shoot against Chelsea
2008 - Ronaldo picks up the Ballon D'or - the European Footballer of the Year Award
2008 - Manchester United win the Club World Cup beating Liga de Quito 1 - 0 with a late goal from Wayne Rooney
2009 - Cristiano Ronaldo named the Fifa World Player of the Year for 2008.
2009 - Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on penalties in the Carling Cup final
2009 - League title number 18 equalls Liverpool's long term record
